Does anyone else here think that it’s completely unfair how Chris is training? I mean come on! He already crushes anyone he can coil around and now he’s talking about getting stronger!?!? More endurance!?!? More constricting force!?!?
All jokes aside he is keeping the Bodyscissors pages alive and I really appreciate that! Thank you sir!
Are you thinking of some exercise suggestions or program that would target the stabilizers ... to suggest to us? Many of us get stuck in our exercise routines, and these kinds of additions/changes would be most welcome ....
I'm suggesting using scissors at sub max levels to work on stabilizer training. There are cable and band exercises you can do for your ankles like anterior tibialis curls, towel slides and you could do isometric holds with a band or cable pulling your foot into internal rotation and you keep it neutral. I'd try to do this while maintaining my arch to prevent training foot inversion
In BJJ we often say the best workout for BJJ is BJJ and it occurs to me that there are few functional activities we do in the gym or in life that really increase strength that we need for scissors. In the past I've emphasized quads and glutes but they aren't what usually fail. When I did the scissor marathon that was my Brazil trip followed by wrestlefest NYC it was my ankles and knee stabilizers that really gave out on me. Don't get me wrong, my quads were complaining about overtraining but it was really all the little things being put under that kind of stress. I think what people really need to do to get killer scissors would include sub max (below torture levels) of scissor training to increase strength and endurance in the stabilizers to avoid overworking them when it matters. I think twice a week training as part of a leg day or after one would be good, especially with blood flow restriction training (burn707 has neoprene cuffs which may help train without the bulk of inflatables). Would love a workout partner (with similar goals).
