Now 0-2 in Masters Boxing, but...

After many schedule changes, I finally had my second Masters fight this evening. There are three experience categories in Masters Boxing Australia tournaments: Cadet (0 previous fights), Combat (1-6) and Open (7 and more). It turned out that mostly Open fighters registered for this event, with hardly any Cadet and Combat competitors, so I was matched with an Open fighter, who was also in a lower age bracket. He had fought my great friend and trainer Rashan at the event at which I made my debut last year and took away a split decision victory. So he was a formidable challenge for me, but also much more of a known quantity for me than last year's opponent. Our fight was therefore labelled "Catch" because it was not the exact match - for unavoidable reasons - that it was supposed to be. I shrugged and stepped into the ring with Rashie in my corner. While I did not come away with the W, I fought the way I had been trained, all the way to the end of the third round, landing some good shots as well as taking a few. I am happy with it all and have emerged unscathed. My first Shiraz for weeks tasted wonderful with my margherita pizza supper and now I am looking forward to my first decent night's sleep for the weekend!

Kudos on your willingness to step into the ring with an Open class fighter in a lower age bracket. You should be very proud to have taken on this challenge as many others would have backed down. You became a winner the moment you decided to train in preparation for a contest in front of others. You can't control which opponent they put in front of you in the ring but you can determine the effort put forth both before and during the match. The Shiraz and pizza were well-deserved.

Congrats on the accomplishment, but wouldn't count this towards your Master's record but more of a heightened sparring session in front of a crowd.

Keep moving forward and enjoy your break.

It was a lot being asked of you to step in against an open division (and younger class) fighter. But you assumed the challenge and was proved you were up to that challenge. I salute you! Congrats!
